Ontario was one of three Royal Navy Swiftsure class cruisers. The main armament comprised nine 6-inch guns in triple turrets and ten 4-inch anti-aircraft guns in Twin mounts.

She was laid down in November 1941 as the Minotaur but was renamed Ontario while building. Commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy in April, 1945 she immediately went to the British Pacific Fleet. She arrived in the Pacific too late to see action in WWII, and soon returned to Canada, where she served mainly as a training ship throughout her career.

She was decommissioned in 1958 and was scrapped at Osaka in 1960.

Ontario carried pendant number 53 during WWII, and number 32 post-war.
