BELFAST, 11 December 2002 – Ship No 1741 built at Harland and Wolff was delivered yesterday to its new owner, AWSR, a British shipping consortium.

The 22,000 tonne gross weight Hartland Point, the first of two roll-on roll-off ferries built for AWSR, left Belfast Harbour on its maiden voyage bound for the south coast of England.

Bill Alexander, Harland and Wolff Chief Executive, said: “We are pleased to finish the year with the delivery of a new ship and we are looking forward to delivering Hartland Point’s sister ship Anvil Point early next year.

Hartland Point will immediately start work as part of the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Sealift Service being provided by AWSR.
