[Lalandia just after launch (Poul Tingleff)]

Originally named Lalandia - Launched on Thursday 9 July 1914 , but completion of vessel delayed by WWI - H&W compensated for the delay and the vessel was never delivered. Eventually disposed of as Kangaroo to government of Western Australia - In 1938 Kangaroo was sold to Moller & Company, Shanghai who re-named her Nora Moller and made a number of changes to the vessel including installation of a funnel. The vessel left Singapore on the 2nd February 1942 bound for Calcutta, but the following day she was attacked by Japanese bomber planes. This time in the Banka Strait east of Sumatra. The ship caught fire and both main engines were destroyed. 70 persons, passengers and crew members, managed to get into the life boats and were picked-up later by HMAS Hobart and HMAS Tenedos. The fire onboard Nora Moller continued until she sank the next day 4th February 1942. 17 persons onboard were lost.

Built by Harland & Wolff at Irvine, Ayrshire in conjunction with Mackie & Thomson.
Meanwhile, Mackie & Thomson renamed the company to The Ayrshire Dockyard Company and this was the first ship from the yard.
