Launch of Thames side's biggest vessel for 25 years. The motor vessel "clay carrier', believed to be the largest vessel to be built on the Thames side since HMS Thunder was launched nearly 25 years ago, was launched at the North Woolwich, yards of Harland and Wolff, limited. The ceremony was performed by Mrs James E Hird, wife of the manager of Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers, Limited. Join lighterage department, for whom the 'Claycarrier' was built. The Claycarrier is a tanker vessel capable of carrying about 1000 tons of slurry (a mixture of clay and water). She is powered by four-cylinder two cycle diesel engine of 400 bhp. The ship will ply between Cliffe and Greenhithe. Photo shows, the Claycarrier going down the slipway. 10 June 1937
