On October 21, 1941, Treverbyn, while in convoy SL.89, was torpedoed and sunk by U-82. The position was 400 miles West of Ireland. The master, thirty-six crew members and ten DEMS gunners were lost.
 
There were no survivors from the total complement of forty-eight.
