She was powered by a Oil 4S CSA 646nhp engine. Engines by Harland & Wolff Glasgow. In 1932 she was purchased by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co.
 
On the 30th October 1942 when on route from Buenos Aires & Freetown for Liverpool in Convoy SL-125 and carrying a cargo of 7,132 tons of hides, rice, & cotton she was torpedoed by German submarine U-509 and sunk near Madeira. 14 persons lost from a total of 59.
 
The master, 32 crew members, seven gunners and three passengers were picked up by the British auxiliary patrol vessel HMS Kelantan (F 166) and landed at Gourock on 8 November.
