She was powered by 3 diesel engines by Harland & Wolff, Glasgow. On the 10th July 1963 in the early hours she struck the submerged wreck of the freighter Marionga J Cairns off the channel in fog (Montevideo for Buenos Aires with 358 passengers and 63 crew); during evacuation she caught fire (from engine room short circuits).
