 Lochmonar

[Harland and Wolff Collection]

7.1924: Completed by Harland & Wolff Ltd., Belfast for Royal Mail Meat Transports Ltd., and named Lochmonar.

30.11.1927: Following a defect developing in the steering gear Lochmonar over-ran the sunken revetment at Taylor's Bank in the Mersey, and broke her back when the tide ebbed. The ship was cut in two just forward of the bridge and a new bow was fitted by the builders. Lochmonar's next visit to Merseyside saw the unusual spectacle of a ship passing part of herself !

4.8.1932: Fleet passed into ownership of Royal Mail Lines Ltd.

19.9.1948: Ran aground near Little Cayman island during a hurricane,

30.9.1948: Refloated  by salvage steamer "Curb".

1949: Sold to British Iron & Steel Corporation and arrived Blyth 18.4.1949 for demolition by Hughes Bolckow Ltd.
