“You’ll hardly want to have a record of a drilling machine in action,” quipped Foreman Atbert Adams of the Module Shop as he presented Steelworker Joseph Andrews with colleagues’ gift of a stereogram and speakers to mark Joe’s retirement on 10th September 1976. Joe acquired a wealth of drilling expertise in his 40 years with the firm and a technical know-how learned by experience and dedication to the job. Now he is looking forward to a quieter life with time to do a spot of gardening and to listen to his records. “But, just the same, I’ll miss my mates—and the noise,” he says.
