Rfn Hugh Atkinson Born in Belfast. Enlisted in Belfast Service No. 8/13962 Killed in Action 5th August 1917 aged 22 No known grave - commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ieper (Ypres) Medals- Victory Medal, British War Medal, 1915 Star In 1901 Hugh was 6 years old and living with his father Hugh 36, a shipyard worker and his mother Lavina 35. He had 3 sisters; Elizabeth 13, Agnes 8 and Lavina 3 months. The family lived at 17 Skipton Street in east Belfast. By 1911 census, Hugh was 16 and working as a labourer in the shipyard with his father. They were then living at 10 Mersey Street, in east Belfast with mother Lavina and sisters Agnes 18, Lavina 11 and Nellie 8. Hugh's sister Elizabeth has married a John Newberry and they were also living at 10 Mersey Street with their two children Hugh 2 years and John 1 month old.
