Harland and Wolff - Shipbuilding and Engineering Works

Stoker 1st Class Nathaniel Agnew, SS/105038, H.M.S. Hawke, Royal Navy. Unit text - RFR/CH/B/8676 - Royal Fleet Reserve, Chatham. Killed in Action, 15th October 1914, aged 26 years. Son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Agnew, 18 Westminster Avenue, Belfast. No known grave. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 4. (On October 15th H.M.S. Hawke was successfully torpedoed by a German submarine. H.M.S. Theseus, which was in company, was unsuccessfully attacked at the same time. H.M.S. Hawke sank in a few minutes, and unfortunately Captain Williams, 26 officers and 500 men were lost with the ship. Four officers and about 60 men were saved). Signed the Ulster Covenant at the City Hall with his father, September 1912.
