Robert was born on 19 May 1879 in Co. Down of parents William John and Charlotte Patterson, Dromore, Co. Down. They had 3 children namely Robert, Agnes and Hugh and lived at 10 Upper Frank Street, Belfast.
Robert was married to Mary E Patterson and lived at 46 Belvoir Street, Belfast.
He embarked for France on 5 October 1915 and died on 2 July 1916 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
His widow Mary E Patterson received a War Gratuity of £7 and 10 shillings.
